Who we are
Mujeres Unidas (“Women United”) is a collective of knitters based in Santa Rosa, a hillside settlement in the outskirts of Lima, Peru. We gather each afternoon with cones of alpaca yarn, our needles, and plenty of conversation—turning shared skill and friendship into clothing that carries warmth in every stitch.
How it began
Our circle formed with the encouragement of Reiko Kaburaki Lee, who made Peru her home in 2002. What started as a small group of neighbors learning and experimenting together has grown into a steady, community-run workshop. Over the years, women have come and gone as life demands, but the spirit remains the same: work made with dignity, beauty, and mutual care.
What we make
We design and knit scarves, hats, ponchos, and seasonal pieces in small batches using Peruvian alpaca—renowned for its softness, durability, and natural range of colors. You’ll find classics in creams and tans alongside bolder palettes inspired by Lima’s sun, sea, and city hillsides. We adapt our patterns each season, mixing time-honored techniques with contemporary shapes.
How your purchase helps
Every item is priced to reflect the time and skill of the artisan who made it. Sales first cover materials and workshop costs; the remainder is shared among members. Women who develop designs that resonate with customers may earn additional compensation—encouraging creativity and leadership within the group.
Our workshop, our community
Santa Rosa is a place of resilience. Reliable water, transportation, and services can be a challenge, but the workshop gives us a gathering point—a space to learn, earn, and look out for one another. Coffee breaks, design debates, and shared problem-solving are part of the fabric here. When you wear our knitwear, you carry that community with you.
